About Us:

The Wiesengrund Stud was founded around 1943 by Trude Zaeck van Heel.

In Erkrath Unterfeldhaus, mares like Samara, born in 1936 out of Laland, and Farce, born in 1943, formed the beginnings.

The stud farm was run with passion by Mrs. Zaeck van Heel until her death in 1971. Her brother, Heinz van Heel, took over the reins for a few years until his daughter, Renate Schmidt, took over in 1979.

From the turn of the century, Ms. Renate Schmidt and her daughter Birgitta Schmidt shared management.

The irrepressible passion for sport and horses drives us ever further. The number of mares has been reduced in recent years from 20 animals to two or three mares.

The motto now, “quality over quantity”.

This change also enables us to give old and young pensioners a home and to care for them with love.

The stud farm itself covers around 10 hectares and has two large stables. One made of stone and the other in the old style made of wood, affectionately called the Schottenstall.

Our love for horses remains unbroken and we hope to continue successfully breeding thoroughbreds in the coming years.

The stud:

Small but nice, the property covers approximately 10 hectares. There are two large stables, two main houses, a staff house with adjacent boxes and an old stallion stable. The stone stable on the west side of the property contains 12 boxes, and the bulkhead stable on the east side has 14 more boxes. In addition to the buildings, the rest of the property consists of 10 paddocks and a small sandy area.

Since 2022, our horses have been kept in open stables and have access to several pastures, as well as the Scottish stable with its large interior and a tent on the pastures opposite.

Our retired breeding and racing horses, as well as those retired due to illness, can spend their remaining years here.
